Paris : secret places of the Occupation

Paris, June 14, 1940. Under the Parisians’ stunned gaze, the boots of the Wehrmacht soldiers pounded the pavement of the Champs-Elysées. Declared an open city and emptied of two thirds of its population, the French capital has just been abandoned to Germany. Arc de Triomphe, Hôtel des Invalides, Eiffel Tower, Place de la Concorde, the Nazi power could not have dreamed of a more beautiful war’s beginning. Yet, behind the victorious images of German propaganda, the war is far from over. This film tells the story of the underground war in occupied Paris. The incredible takeover of the Senate and its bunker by the Germans, the barbarity of the Gestapo on rue des Saussaies, the escape tunnel of Drancy and the liberation of Paris from Colonel Henri Rol-Tanguy’s checkpoint…
