Napoleon Bonaparte was the first to ever picture the city of Paris as we know it today. On top of being a war leader, he was also a great builder. The Arc de Triomphe, the Vendôme Column, and the Madeleine Church are the flowers of his empire. He was also a pioneer, the one to provide Paris with a water supply system, thanks to the Canal de l’Ourcq that is more than 100 kilometres long. He improved the inhabitants’ lives, building bridges, squares, and fountains near high activity places. Rivoli street became the main artery, designed to bring air and life to a medieval Paris. He transformed this city into an imperial and modern capital, with unrivalled monumental buildings. These gigantic works demanded thousands of workers, and the skills of multiple engineers and architects, who perfected some construction techniques and invented some others.
