Located in Maincy, near Melun, in Seine-et-Marne, Vaux-le-Vicomte is the largest private property in France, classified as a historic monument. With its hectares of gardens designed by Le Nôtre and its castle with its unique dome-shaped roof built in the 17th century by Le Vau for Superintendent Fouquet, this jewel would have served as a model for that of Versailles. Several thousand workers were needed to build it. The document returns to this major project.
