1905, scandal at the Autumn Exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris… Henri Matisse and his companions, André Derain, Maurice de Vlaminck and Albert Marquet, exhibit their paintings in broad daylight. In the eyes of the world, they were perceived as Fauves, provoking the first artistic shock of the 20th century, an explosion of colours, a painting by flat tints.
At the origin of this event, a troubled period of trial and error: Matisse’s discovery of the light of the South during his stay in Corsica.
