For decades, women have been markedly absent from prehistory. Our collective imagination has even confined them to caves, or a reproductive role. Do recent discoveries justify these stereotypes? What if the Lascaux cave paintings were the work of Paleolithic women? What if these women were hunters? A new global study led by National Geographic teams and taped by videographer and archeology graduate Clothilde Chamussy, focuses on women, from the Paleolithic era to proto-history.
